Fringe Science

The history of science is, in many ways, a history of the fringe. Paradigm-shifting discoveries often begin outside prevailing consensus, challenging accepted assumptions and opening entirely new frontiers of inquiry. We believe science flourishes when unconventional ideas are permitted to compete openly and rigorously, and we seek to drive, and support the exploration of neglected domains of inquiry that remain overlooked, constrained, or prematurely dismissed by the existing culture of science.

Scientific Epistemology

The core DNA of science involves how we engage with fundamental questions, how we conceive of the practice of research, and finally, the methods through which we operate in the laboratory. Scientific methodology, culture, and philosophy are all important aspects of our scientific epistemology, yet we have been stuck on a singular framing—the scientific method—for quite some time. Our goal is to ambitiously pursue new ways of conceiving the practice of research, as well as new ways of performing research practically in the laboratory, thereby moving beyond the mere scientific method.

Lab Space

Our lab and headquarters is located in Downtown Norfolk, Virginia. Inside, we maintain equipment for multi-domain research, much of which was graciously donated by the Virginia Wesleyan University chemistry department.

The focus of our lab is to perform research aligned with our research thesis, particularly exploring metascience, philosophy of science, and radical + fringe areas of inquiry.

The space also serves as a casual gathering place for weekly meetups, events, and general work. We maintain a growing library of books and publications that we are consistently curating.
